Stock ItemsBuying items off the shelf, commonly referred to as stock items, definitely has it's advantages for the savvy flipper and/or remodeler. Success of large big-box home-improvement stores such as Lowe's and The Home Depot are testament to just how strong local remodelers, big or small, think about buying off the shelf, as it were. For many low-to-medium budget remodeling jobs, one can find just about any type of cabinet, plumbing fixture, roofing material, doors, flooring, most anything you can think of, will be (in most cases) well supplied at home improvement stores all across the country.
The main advantage is convenience. These typical home-improvement chain such as Lowe's, can buy such large quantities of product at lower prices, which are then passed on to the customer in the form of cheaper prices. I have become more and more impressed with the quality getting better at these big stores too (I didn't feel that way early on, but certainly do now). By negotiating deals with better suppliers, store shelves are almost certainly going to be filled with whatever you're looking for in the way of:
... and so on. I am in no way trying to be a salesman for these stores (they certainly don't pay me to do this) whatsoever. I'm simply trying to convey that there are meaningful supplies of stock items at reasonable prices that is probably within a short driving distance from your home (flipping location). You don't need a dozen phone numbers to call various supply houses for things that are well within your reach right now. Why special order kitchen cabinets when you can pay less for nice-quality cabinets purchased right off the shelf. Believe me, I've been doing it this way for years, and I have remained very satisfied for all this time. |
